I woke up and bundled up to head over to the Green Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary to volunteer. It was bitterly cold. So cold in fact that the area ponds were frozen and a few places had snow on the ground. I was first to arrive so I jumped in and began mucking out the barn. The area I helped with is where the sheep, goats and pygmy goats are kept at night. Here's the before shot.
A rooster kept coming in and 'helping' us.
All cleaned out and ready for straw.
Ahh.... the animals are going to love this!
I was also asked to go let Stormy the horse out of his stall in another field. I'm not very familiar with horses but headed out towards his pasture anyway. When I opened the gate for Stormy he sensed that I was nervous and gave me plenty of room. Once out of his stall he reached his neck around my right shoulder and sort of hugged me! It took me by surprise but it was very sweet! Here's our group photo!
Later in the day Brandon and Becky braved the 7 inches of snow they had and came to my apartment for lunch, which included these. Brandon helped me set up my scanner so expect to see some more retro photos coming soon! Here's a sneak preview: My Grandpa with Brandon in 1993. Love this photo so much!
Then we all headed out to dinner. At dinner we discussed Christmas plans and my parents announced that are doing something out of the ordinary/huge/special/surprise for us. I'm now beyond EXCITED for Christmas! After dinner Becky, Brandon and I went to a local cake shop and got a sweet treat to enjoy.
On my way home I completed my Christmas shopping, so yeah, don't be jealous.... but I'm done and just about everything is wrapped too! Once home almost all of my extended family/friends called to wish me a happy birthday. Thank you everyone and happy birthday to me!
